Orthotics long Term Treatment for Sesamoiditis

February 18th, 2010 . by admin

What is a seamoids? Well this sesamoids are two small bones under the joint at the base of the big toe that functions like little knee caps because they act as pulleys for the tendons that act across the joint. They also take the major share of the weight under the big toe and that is why they are prone to overuse which can then result to injury to these small bones and the structures around them and this condition is called sesamoiditis and it is treated by padding to offload the area and the used of orthotics for long term management. Unless sesamoiditis will become resistant to these treatments, surgery can be avoided.
