Dodging a Bullet

I don’t know if you remember RegisterFly but I do…and with good reason. RegisterFly was a registrar/hosting company who ran into “difficulties” in the earlier days of the Internet, went out of business, and caused many innocent Registrants to lose their domains forever.
I dodged a bullet there because my domain was not registered and hosted at the same place. If your domain is registered and hosted with different companies, you can move your domain to a different server to save your income if your hosting company becomes insolvent. Similarly, if your registrar becomes insolvent, you can usually continue to have income from your hosting company and survive long enough to register your domain with a new registrar.
There are many ways of protecting your domain investment. That is just one of them. The best way is to work with people that you trust…but don’t trust them too much. Now let me register this new domain before I lose my nerve.
